  Recognize Your Wine

Wine quality cannot be determined by the covering on the cork, which may be wax or foil.

You do not have to remove the wax before removing the cork, but metal foil must be removed prior to opening the bottle. Some openers have a small cutting tool for this purpose, or you may use a knife.

1. The bottle on the left, which has an high shoulder, is a Bordeaux.

2. The next bottle, with a low shoulder, is a Burgundy.

3. The third bottle, called a high flute, contains Alscacian wine.
